Privacy Policy
Last updated: REPLACE_ME date
Gikae is run by REPLACE_ME company ("we", "us"). This policy says what the Gikae apps and server collect, why, and what you can do about it. Contact: REPLACE_ME@gikae.taklabs.dev.
What is collected
Account — only if you sign in. You can use Gikae without an account: the app works from the start with an anonymous device identity. If you sign in with Apple or Google to sync your settings across devices, the server receives and stores your name, your email address and, if you set one, a profile picture. With Apple you can choose to hide your email.
Anonymous devices. Every device gets a random device identifier and a device token. The server stores only a hash of the token, never the token itself. For each device we also store the platform, the app version and its push notification token.
Location — as a coarse grid, never your exact position. In GPS mode the app rounds your position to a 0.1° grid (about 11 km) before sending it; your raw coordinates are never stored on the server. Push notifications use the last grid your device sent. In manual mode you save fixed places (grid coordinates, a name, and which one notifications use). Searching for a city sends what you type to your phone's search service — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android — directly from your device; the query never goes through our server.
Settings and feedback. Your style toggle, cold-sensitivity offset, outing hours, language, temperature unit, notification schedule, and your once-a-day "too cold / just right / too warm" feedback.
Forecast lookups. To fetch a forecast the server sends your grid square to Apple (WeatherKit) and Open-Meteo (CAMS-based air quality). They receive an approximate grid location, not your exact position.
What is not collected. No contacts, no photos, no advertising identifier, no exact GPS trace.
How it is used
To run the service: sign you in, sync and store what you set, send you notifications and prevent abuse. Nothing else.
Who else receives data
| Who | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
Amazon Web Services (REPLACE_ME region) | Everything the server stores | Hosting |
| Apple (WeatherKit) | Approximate grid location | Fetching weather forecasts |
| Open-Meteo (CAMS data) | Approximate grid location | Fetching air quality forecasts |
| Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | Push token and the notification payload | Delivering notifications |
| Apple (Apple Push Notification service) | Push token and the notification payload | Delivering notifications on Apple devices |
| Apple or Google, as your sign-in provider | That you signed in to Gikae | Sign-in (only if you sign in) |
| Apple (city search, iOS) | The city name you type | Finding the place you search for (sent from your device, not our server) |
| Google (city search, Android) | The city name you type | Finding the place you search for (sent from your device, not our server) |
How long it is kept
Until you delete your account. Deleting your account from the app deletes your account, your devices and everything you created. Anonymous devices that have not called the API for 90 days and whose push token is invalid are deleted. Cached forecasts expire within 2 days. REPLACE_ME: backup retention.
Your choices
You can change your settings, sign out of a device, or delete your account at any time from the app. For anything else, write to REPLACE_ME@gikae.taklabs.dev.
Children
The service is not meant for children under 13.
